Was so eine Woche Urlaub so ausmacht! Es ist kaum zu glauben
aber ich habe es endlich geschafft meinen Strohhut fertig zu stellen!
Einen kleinen Einblick hatte ich ja bereits im Januar diesen
Jahres gegeben. Oh man Januar, das ist bereits ein halbes Jahr her!
Aber wenn man nicht unter druck steht wird auch nichts
fertig! Nur gut das Weimar vor der Tür steht, so geschehen noch Zeichen und
Wunder und ehe man sich versieht, ist der Hut auch schon fertig!
What puts
out vacation such a week so! It is hardly to be believed, finally, however, I
have got to finish my Seaside Bonnet!
I had given
a small insight already in January this year. Oh one January, this is already
half a year!
But if one

already ready to the Bonnet!
Also holen wir noch mal die Alten Bilder aus dem Keller und
erzählen ein wenig vom Handwerk.

Zunächst einmal habe ich mich an das beigefügte
Schnittmuster gehalten und die Grundform aus Steifleinen zugeschnitten. Danach
ging es los, das Hutstroh zu verarbeiten. Hier kam mir meine früher erlernte
Tätigkeit des Korbflechtens zu gute, denn das Hutstroh muss wie Peddigrohr in
etwas warmes Wasser eingeweicht werden um so biegsamer und geschmeidiger zu
werden. So lässt es sich am besten auf das Steifleinen nähen.
First once
I have kept to the enclosed cut pattern and have cut the basic form stiff
linen. Then it went off to process the hat straw. Here my early learnt activity
of the baskets twist too good came to me, because the hat straw must be soaked
like rattan in a little bit warm water to become more pliable and smoother so.
Thus it can be sewn best of all on the stiff linen.
Die Hutkrempe habe ich mit Maschine genäht, was mich
letztendlich ein wenig geärgert hat, da man mit Hand viel schneller vorwärts
kommt und mehr Kontrolle über das Hutstroh hat. Den Zylinder und den
Zylinderdeckel habe ich dann mit Hand genäht, danach wurden die einzelnen Teile
zusammengenäht.
I have sewn
the brim with machine what has annoyed me at last a little, because one makes
progress with hand much faster and has more control of the hat straw. I have
sewn the cylinder and the cylinder lid then with hand, then became the single
parts together.
Nun ging es an die Frage nach dem letztendlichen Aussehen
des Hutes. Ich wollte eine relativ neutrale Verzierung, so das man den Hut zu
mehr als einem Kleid tragen kann. Auf der Suche nach einer passenden Vorlage
blätterte ich ein paar Kupferstiche durch, und wurde dann auf einer Tafel von
Costumes Parisiens von 1812 fündig.
Now it went
to the question after the last-limited appearance of the hat. I wanted a
relatively neutral decoration, thus one can carry hat to more than one dress.
In search of a suitable presentation, I paged through a few copperplates, and
then made a find on a board of Costumes Parisiens of 1812.
Dafür bestellte ich
mir hier einen elfenbeinfarbenen Seidentaft, den ich dann zum Ausfüttern
des Hutes und für die Verzierungen verwendet habe.
For it I
ordered myself here an ivory-coloured silk taffeta which I have used then for
lining of the hat and for the decorations.
