On the last day of the year I would of course not without a few words to write, flitting in the New Year!
I have not quite managed my current project. Since the sleeves were still sew, to cut the skirt to sew and attach to the top and of course, sew the cap. This will consist of many hooks and eyes.

However, a small look at the incomplete dress must be, or? There I have of course a few more pictures ready! The material, from that the dress originates is a cotton chintz, this has a certain stiffness and thus with an also good state! The cuffs, neckline and four seams at the top I have provided with piping made of silk taffeta. Lined everything with a white cotton fabric.

So nun mach ich erst mal vierundzwanzig Stunden Pause vom Nähtisch! Wir sehen uns im nächsten Jahr!!
So now I'll only times twenty-four hours break from sewing table! See you next year !!

Neujahrslied

Das alte Jahr vergangen ist,
Das neue Jahr beginnt.
Wir danken Gott zu dieser Frist,
Wohl uns, dass wir noch sind!
Wir sehn auf's alte Jahr zurück,
Und haben neuen Mut:
Ein neues Jahr, ein neues Glück!
Die Zeit ist immer gut.

Ja, keine Zeit war jemals schlecht:
In jeder lebet fort
Gefühl für Wahrheit, Ehr' und Recht
Und für ein freies Wort.
Hinweg mit allem Weh und Ach!
Hinweg mit allem Leid!
Wir selbst sind Glück und Ungemach,
Wir selber sind die Zeit.

Und machen wir uns froh und gut,
Ist froh und gut die Zeit,
Und gibt uns Kraft und frohen Mut
Bei jedem neuen Leid.
Und was einmal die Zeit gebracht,
Das nimmt sie wieder hin -
Drum haben wir bei Tag und Nacht
Auch immer frohen Sinn.

Und weil die Zeit nur vorwärts will,
So schreiten vorwärts wir;
Die Zeit gebeut, nie stehn wir still,
Wir schreiten fort mit ihr.
Ein neues Jahr, ein neues Glück!
Wir ziehen froh hinein,
Denn vorwärts! vorwärts! nie zurück!
Soll unsre Losung sein.

Euch allen ein glückliches neues Jahr!!
You all a happy new year !!

Dezember

Now the year is over already almost and the restless and restless time, unfortunately, does not stop yet. Many things which I had planned this year are still in the children's shoes or are only thoughts in my head. Besides, quite big new things stand for the next year in the start holes!

Now today at least I can present to you two new petticoats for my new project! A cotton rock with tucks and a Stringrock also of cotton with sewed in cords.
And what should this become? Now this becomes an excursion to the late 1840ger. Risquély, risquély, I know! The achievement of a hair chain was decisive from 1845. I have the suitable shoes already ready! And now it goes to the dress!

In the interim I wish all one quiet Advent season!

In Weihnachtszeiten

After I had tried some years ago already once in white embroidery and did not promise to myself the result yet 100%, I resolved to visit myself this year a course on the subject.

In addition I had already turned last year to the Sorbian museum in Bautzen, because for a lot some time ago to a book with Sorbian embroidery technologies in my hand. These national costumes were and are till this day still a lived tradition and the technics at that time are also taught even today and are transmitted to the next generation.

There I found out that of all two years of Workshops are given, in 2014 these were three courses on the subject White embroidery. This fitted perfectly and thus I announced myself of course. Unfortunately, I could not visit for some various reasons the first course in May, but I perceived both others in September and in October.

For me it was to be learnt importantly basic technics and pinches and to get to know. Thus we embroidered not with the customary embroidery thread, but with machines embroidery thread of the size 50 of cotton. This is a fine thread which little own rotations owns and can be processed very well on cotton. In our case we used a fine cotton cambric. Our lecturer Mrs. Münch explained and, moreover, that it is very important to select the thread after the thread strength of the material, otherwise the embroidered picture could often have an effect like pixelated.

After a short basic introduction it already went off. The motive will transfer with pencil (possibly a harder mine use) to the material. Helpfully to the embroidering is of course an embroidery frame, however, this is nobody has to go like I might get to know. Knots do not seem in the embroidery! The thread is fixed by means of a back sting in the motive or on the motive edge. You cannot imagine that this holds? If it tries out, I was fascinated!

Then all marked lines will be filled first later with a flat embroidery, bordered with a presting. Of course one can also finish every motive section individually, depending on how complex is a motive and how one himself still looks though! To generate a sculptural result, now the forms are filled by means of a filling sting. Besides, the thread should border very close and with longer stings than with of the motive lie on the material. To see well in picture 3 further below.
If this is the motive with a flat sting coated is created, these stings should lie of course also very close and adapt themselves in curvatures and corners. Yes and a section is already ready.

Yes so simply this also sounds, however, it is not! The all most important one is patience! If one works too in a hurry or squalidly, the embroidered looks quickly irregular.
An unbelievable work the whole object was possibly so fine and to work as accurate as possible that I have used for it 1 month! The more one practices of course, this is, as everybody knows, with all things in such a way, the better one becomes with the embroidering and the more exactly one can estimate the tasteless one and process him very close.
I like everything in all the result well and I will still process this specimen, to it, however, in another post.

Fortsetzung folgt...

On the occasion of our this year's stay in Weimar quite a special(particular) surprise waited for the participants!

We transferred us not only in suitable contemporary Gewandung, but also gastronomically there should be a small greeting from the past.
 ***

On the occasion of the exhibition "Weimar classical period. Culture of the sensuous " in 2012, an as elegant like tasty tradition was revived: the Weimar sugar cameos.

Once comestibles, to coloured sugar cameos were valid as a culinary landmark of Weimar. When the court cook "muse's town in the Ilm " René François le Goullon returned from a trip to Rome with recipe and glass cameos to the model "Bonbonnières à l 'Antique ", he managed a true export hit. His assortment enclosed in 1799 seventy motives after antique or antikisierenden cameos in eight different taste directions. The archeologist Carl August Böttiger explained, it is attractive to study the whole mythology in sugar pastes ", before one annexes them to himself.

In the book "Antike Gemmen und ihr Nachleben" of Erika Zwierlein-Diehl, one says:

A cheerful report for the spreading of the cameo enthusiasm are the casts of the sugar paste which the inhabitant of Weimar confectioner René François le Goullon produced. He had accompanied the duchess's widow Amalie on her Italy trip as an oral cook and had used the opportunity to acquire a great number of (glass) of pastes which served him now as a Matriezen. The archeologist Karl August Böttiger praises in a note in the „morning sheet for the educated states“ (No. 206, 29.08.1809, p. 823) particularly as birthday presents and New Year presents popular "Goullonschen Bonbonieren": Nothing is lighter and at the same time more innocent, than to study the whole mythology thus in sugar pastes, and soon a nice Ganymed, to consume soon a dear-lovely Hebe with the dessert!

Also Goethe offered such sugar cameos to his guests now and then.

Quelle:

The Erfurt pastry shop praise stone which called the sugar cameos again in see life for this occasion used for the production of their sugar cameos a white decoration mass which is usual today for the creation of wedding cakes. This sugar paste might come close to the original, the Tragant – herbal bandage and thickening means – included, surely.

By the way, René François le Goullon has called(mentioned) the ready sweets not sugar cameos, but sugar pastilles!

Now the idea was in the space on the occasion of our second Weimar trip to wake just these sugar pastilles to the life and to surprise thus our fellow-passengers and to produce a small memory of this event.

As already a little further on top mentions, there is no traditional recipe for the cameos. So that I had to try out willy nilly and improvise!

Dear Sabine, they the stone in roll had brought and with which I forged diligently plans in addition, a silicone form which formed our basic form of the pastilles sent me. The silicone form rescued three forms of a cameo, a young woman. Every single one is approx. 2.2 cm long and 1.5 cm wide.

Now I started to experiment.

I tried out cooked sugar which I allowed to cook with 150C and which one could dye here already in the approach. Then I had to hurry up, rather the sugar again became firm to produce so many like possible pastilles.

The first ones were ready and solved from the form! Wow, they saw so well from..... incredibly and so easily!

Yes, but when I looked half an hour later again, they looked thus:

Also nichts mit gekochtem Zucker!!

They became blurred formally! This was due to the fact that with cook the sugar water loses and after he has cooled off, he draws the air humidity again. So nothing with cooked sugar!!

My search on the Internet brought me the idea to try it with the sugar substitute Isomalt. This is also used in sweets with the information without sugar.

One needs this white körnige substance only melt and then in the form pour. If the rest hardens, one can melt him over and over again what is actually very practical, because it saves material.

However, the result was more or less same like with the cooked sugar, moreover, only it tasted of nothing:

Langsam war ich am verzweifeln! Was nun?

I was slow in despair! What now? Now I had to make waynecessarily on quite an other substance! I tried it with flower paste. This is a harder fondant with which one can make nice blossoms and other things three-dimensional.

The result was worthy of notice now, but the taste still left much to be desired! To tell the truth, it tasted again of nothing!

So I further did research on the Internet and found a fondant with vanilla aroma. Though this is flavorful not the most great creation, but, at anyway, it tasted. Unfortunately, the consistency was too soft, so that I a small lump about 24 h for the moment in the air something allowed to dry. Then one meant to knead hard and see there, now I could go to great production!

The painting of the ready dry pastilles was not complicated against it so. I used an aromatic oil, for example, almond aroma and Farbpikmente as a powder (obtainable in every baking shop). With a fine paintbrush (briefly boil) then I have lent every cameo individually a painting.

Of course such cameos must be also packed properly! With a lot of talent dear Sabine looked after it! To read up what has it with the great folding boxes on itself, and how they can be produced to her  on her  Blog!

And thus every participant of this year's Weimar tour operator received a small folding box with 7 sugar pastilles and the programme.

Of course this is the end he trip to the original recipe of the cameos not yet. Maybe I turn in closer future to an other experiment to find a recipe what comes up to the past. And till then wish calibrate to all such a folding box already own a good appetite! And copy all other a lot of fun with!

As in my article from July, 2014 already mentions, I have worked for Weimar still a new dress.

Hier nochmal meine Vorlage:
In addition I have acquired the material favourably by stoffe.de, 19€ of the metres. The composition are 70% of silk and 30% of cotton. He is slightly translucent and weaved with fine stripes.
Here over again my presentation:

Puhh! Und hier meine Interpretation des Gemäldes:
The costliest were the frills in the rock part, these are all together 6 m of frills which became from hand with a rolling hemline decorates.
I have still used to shortly before the departure to Weimar to finish the dress, I put the last sting 10 hours before departure. Puhh! And here my interpretation of the painting:
