Großbritannienrundreise - Teil 2

Weiter ging es am fünften Tag in den Norden von Wales, genauer gesagt in das Örtchen Conwy. In der Stadt findet der Besucher verschiedene historische Gebäude. Dazu gehören zum Beispiel das Aberconwy House aus dem 15. Jahrhundert in der Castle Street, außerdem am Kai das kleinste Haus Großbritanniens mit einer Grundfläche von 3,05 m x 1,8 m, sowie in der High Street das elizabethanische Stadtpalais Plas Mawr von 1580. Die vollständig erhaltene Wehrmauer der Stadt, umschließt ein Areal von 9,5 ha und ist 1,53 km lang, mit 21 Rundtürmen und drei Stadttoren. Leider hatte sich zu diesem Zeitpunkt das Wetter schon etwas gegen uns gestellt und ein leichter Nieselregen war aufgezogen, doch noch waren wir alle frohen Mutes einen weiteren guten Tag zu erleben.

Nach ein wenig Freizeit um uns wieder im ort umzusehen, ging es weiter nach Caernarfon Nordwest-Wales. Sie liegt an der Meerenge von Menai gegenüber der Insel Anglesey und ist die inoffizielle Hauptstadt von Nordwales. Leider meinte es nun das Wetter gar nicht gut mit uns, strömender Regen und peitschender Wind machten es nahezu unmöglich noch trockenen Fußes die Stadt zu erkunden. Da waren auch die anderthalb Stunden Freizeit zu viel, die meisten unserer Mitreisenden gaben nach einer halben Stunde auf, und ich bereute es an diesem tag nicht meine neuen Kontaktlinsen ausgeführt zu haben. Pitschenass und halb erfroren (Außentemperatur 8°C), stiegen wir wieder in den Bus. Nach einer regenreichen Rundfahrt im Snowdonia Nationalpark, der den drittgrößten Berg Großbritanniens beheimatet, kehrten wir wieder in unser Hotel zurück. Dort angekommen...schien die Sonne. Es war nicht zu fassen! Nach einer halben Stunde Schuhe fönen, machten wir noch einen kleinen Spaziergang um das Hotel um den Tag noch mit etwas Sonnenschein abzuschließen.

It lies with the strait of Menai compared with the island Anglesey and is the unofficial capital of north wales. Now, unfortunately, it meant the weather not at all well with us, flowing out rain and whipping wind made nearly impossibly still dry-shod the town to explore. There one and a half-hour spare time also were too much, most of our fellow-passengers surrendered after half an hour, and I regretted it in this do not meet my new contact lenses to have explained. Soaked and half froze to death (outside temperature 8°C), we rose again in the coach. After a rainy round trip in the Snowdonia national park, the third-biggest mountain of Great Britain resident, we returned again in our hotel. There come... seemed the sun. It was not to be caught! Frisch gestärkt machten wir uns am Tag sechs auf den Weg weiter Richtung Norden. Bevor wie aber die Grenze zu Schottland passierten, besuchten wir das Gebiet des Lake District, einer von vierzehn Nationalparks des Vereinigten Königreichs. Die eindrucksvolle Seen- und Berglandschaft in der Grafschaft Cumbria im Nordwesten Englands liegt rund 130 km von Manchester entfernt und erstreckt sich über 2172 km². Es ist ein Seengebiet und so unternahmen wir einen Abstecher an den See Windermere, er ist der größte natürliche See Englands. Zwar war es nun schon nicht mehr so warm, wie noch zuvor in London, doch heute steckte die Sonne etwas mehr ihre Blicke durch die Schauerwolken.

Weiter Richtung Norden passierten wir also die Schottische Grenze und machten noch einen Abstecher nach Glasgow.

Mag es das trübe Wetter gewesen sein, aber ich konnte Glasgow leider nichts schönes abgewinnen, nicht einmal die aus reinem Marmor bestehende Eingangshalle des Rathauses. Und so war ich dann froh endlich meine Beine auf dem Hotelbett ausstrecken zu können.

Now though it was not already so warm any more as still before in London, however, today the sun put a little bit more her looks by the shower clouds.

We passed to wide direction the north the Scottish border and made one more excursion to Glasgow.

If it may have been the murky weather, but I could reclaim of Glasgow, unfortunately, nothing the nice, not even the foyer existing of pure marble of the city hall. And then thus I was to be able to stretch gladly, finally, my legs on the hotel bed.

Heute hieß es, Highlands wir kommen. Dieser Tag würde uns an den nördlichsten Punkt unserer Reise bringen, aber dazu gleich mehr.

Als erste Sehenswürdigkeit des Tages sahen wir uns Loch Lomond an, er ist mit einer Fläche von etwa 71 km² der größte See Schottlands. Er erstreckt sich in Nord-Süd-Richtung über eine Länge von 39 km, ist bis zu 8 km breit und bis zu 190 m tief. Weiter ging es durch das Glen Coe Tal zum sagenumwobenen Loch Ness. Gemessen an der Wasseroberfläche von 56,4 km² ist Loch Ness nach Loch Lomond der zweitgrößte See Schottlands. Er verfügt aber aufgrund seiner Tiefe über das mit Abstand größte Wasservolumen aller schottischen Seen. Am Loch Ness liegt die Burgruine Urquhart Castle, die unser nächster Stop war. Etwa 1230 erbaut, zählte die Burg in ihrer Blütezeit zu den größten in Schottland. 1296 wurde sie von den Engländern eingenommen, fiel dann aber unter die Kontrolle von Robert the Bruce, nachdem dieser schottischer König wurde. Die letzte Garnison verließ die Burg, die fortan dem Verfall überlassen wurde, im Jahr 1692. In den 1930er Jahren erwarb ein Mr. Chewett die Ruine. Heute gehört sie Historic Scotland. Hier hatten wir wieder ein wenig Zeit um die Ruine zu besichtigen und oder nur die Aussicht auf den See zu genießen. Unser nördlichster Punkt erreichten wir dann mit Inverness. Dann wandten wir uns schon wieder etwas südlicher nach Newtonmore wo unser nächstes Hotel lag.

Today one said, highlands we come. This day would bring us to the most northern point of our trip, but in addition immediately more.

As the first place of interest of the day we had a look at loch Lomond, it is with a surface of about 71 km ² the biggest lake of Scotland. He applies in north south direction about in length of 39 km, is up to 8 km wide and up to 190 m deep. Farther it went by Glen Coe Tal to the mystic loch Ness. Measured in the water surface of 56.4 km ² loch Ness after loch Lomond is the second largest lake of Scotland. However, he disposes on account of its depth of the water volume biggest by far all Scottish lake.

The ruined castle Urquhart Castle which was our next stop lies with the loch Ness. About in 1230 built, the castle counted in their period of bloom to biggest in Scotland. In 1296 it was taken by the Englishmen, then fell, however, under the control of Robert the Bruce, after this Scottish king became. The last garrison left the castle, from now on to the decay leave became, in 1692. In the 1930s a Mr. Chewett acquired the ruin. Today it hears Historic Scotland. Here we had to visit a little time around the ruin again and or to enjoy only the view of the lake. Then our most northern point we achieved with Inverness. Then we turned again a little more to the south to Newtonmore where our next hotel lay.

Großbritannienrundreise - Teil 1

Mein diesjähriger Urlaub führte mich auf eine Rundreise durch Großbritannien. Los ging es am 5.5. um 6 Uhr in der Frühe, eigentlich nichts für einen Langschläfer wie mich, aber auf der fahrt konnte man ja auch noch das ein oder andere kleine Nickerchen halten! Da meine Reisbegleitung riesige Flugangst hat, fand die Reise am Boden statt und zwar mit dem Bus. Am ersten Tag führen wir bis Calais, dort machten wir eine Zwischenübernachtung. Immerhin kamen wir erst 20:00 Uhr dort an! Nach einem etwas spärlichen Abendessen und einem kleinen Hafenspaziergang, unser Hotel lag genau im Hafen, hieß es nur noch ab ins Bett.

My this year's vacation led me on a tour through Great Britain. Off) it went on the 5.5 at 6 o'clock in the early morning, actually, nothing for a sleepyhead like me, but on that drive one could hold still this or other small nap! Because my rice company has gigantic fear of flying, the trip on the ground found instead of namely by the coach. On the first day we lead to Calais, there we made an interovernight stay. At least, we came only 20:00 o'clock there! After a little bit scanty dinner and a small harbour walk, our hotel lay exactly in the harbour, one said only from in the bed.

  Der nächste Tag begann fast genau so zeitig, 6 Uhr aufstehen, denn die Fähre fuhr schon 8:30 Uhr. Was für ein bombastisches Wetter, als wir das Hotel verließen, aber leider nur für eine halbe Stunde, denn dann zog vom Meer her Nebel auf, der uns über die ganze Überfahrt begleitete. So waren weder die französische Küste noch die Kreidefelsen von Dover zu erkennen, hm gut, damit konnte ich leben, schließlich war es nicht meine erste Überfahrt.

Der erste Stop auf der britischen Insel war Canterbury, bei herrlichem Wetter hatten wir drei Stunden zeit uns die Stadt näher anzusehen und ein wenig in den Gassen zu schlendern oder die Kathedrale zu besichtigen. Da diese aber nur zur hälfte wegen Bauarbeiten zugänglich war und die doch hohen Eintrittspreise (18£ pP) uns etwas abschreckten zogen wir es vor die Stadt zu Fuß zu erkunden und uns die Gassen und Häuser etwas näher anzusehen.

Unser zweiter Stop an diesem Tag war Leeds Castle, da ich vor zwei Jahren schon mal dieses Schloss besucht hatte, wusste ich was mich erwartete, nur diesmal mit sehr viel besserem Wetter!

The next day began almost as early, get up 6 o'clock, because the ferry already went 8:30 o'clock. What bombastic weather when we left the hotel, unfortunately, only for half an hour, because then drew up from the sea fog which accompanied us about the whole crossing. Thus neither the French coast nor the chalk rocks were to be seen by Dover, humph well, with thus I could live, finally, it was not my first crossing.

The first stop on the British island was Canterbury, in marvellous weather we had to have a look three hours at the town closer and to saunter a little in the lanes or to visit the cathedral. Because this was accessible, however, only to half because of construction works and the nevertheless high entry prices (18 £ pP) to us something deterred we pulled before the town on foot to explore and to have a look at the lanes and at houses a little closer.

Our second stop on this day was Leeds Castle, because I had already visited this castle two years ago, I knew what expected me, only this time with much better weather!

 Der nächste Tag stand ganz im Zeichen der Metropole schlechthin: London! Nach einer sehr informativen Stadtrundfahrt (man bedenke, das ich vor 16 Jahren das letzte mal in London war), hatten wir am Nachmittag etwas Freizeit, leider nur drei Stunden, so das es leider nicht für Madame Tussaud’s reichte. Wir machten daher einen gemütlichen Stadtbummel wo wir uns das Hause of Parlament, Westminster Abbey und Piccadilly Circus ansahen, natürlich nicht ohne einen Besuch in einem Buchladen versteht sich ;)!

The next day stood completely in the sign of the metropolis par excellence: London! After a very informative city tour (one thinks that I was 16 years ago last sometimes in London), we had in the afternoon some Spare time, unfortunately, only three hours, thus it was not enough for Madame Tussaud's. Hence, we took a comfortable town stroll where we to us the house of parliament, Westminster Abbey and Piccadilly Circus considered, of course not without visit in a bookshop gets on ;)!

 

Und schon war Tag vier heran und wir verließen langsam den Süden, unser nächster Stop war Oxford. Was für ein magischer Ort! Schon beim anfänglichen Berufsstau konnte man das ein oder andere Gebäude bewundern. Dann hatten wir auch hier Freizeit um die Stadt ganz individuell zu erkunden. So besuchten wir die Christ Church Cathedral, die unter anderem ein Drehort im ersten teil von Harry Potter war, nämlich nichts anderes als die große Halle! Wow, ich war total überwältigt, und starrte ständig zur Decke nur in der Hoffnung eine Eule zu erblicken. Aber auch ohne Eule ist diese doch eher kleine Kathedrale sehr sehenswert! Dann haben wir uns ein paar Innenhöfe des angrenzenden Collage angesehen, leider hatten wir nicht mehr Zutritt, da ja in den Räumen unterrichtet wurde. Einwenig schlenderten wir dann noch die Hauptstraße entlang, und dann war es das auch schon wieder von Oxford.

Weiter ging es auf unserer Reise in den Norden und wir machten noch einen Stop bei der Burg Warwick Castle. Die Burg zählt zu den schönsten und besterhaltenen Burgen Englands und ist eine Touristenattraktion, die jedes Jahr von tausenden Menschen besucht wird. Die Burg war bis 1978 im Besitz der Earls of Warwick und wurde dann an die Tussauds Group verkauft, die die umfangreichen Restaurierungsarbeiten an der Burg finanzierte und Warwick Castle für die Allgemeinheit öffnete. In den herrschaftlich eingerichteten Räumen befinden sich auch Wachsfiguren von Md. Tussauds und so kam ich dann doch noch in den Genuss ein paar Wachsfiguren bewundern zu können.

Dann fuhren wir weiter nach Chester, das nahe an der Grenze zum nördlichen Wales liegt und bezogen dort unser Hotel.

And day four was already near and we slowly left the south, our next stop was Oxford. What magic place! Already with the initial occupational rope one could admire the one or other building. Then we also had to explore here spare time around the town quite individually. Thus we visited the Christian Church Cathedral, among the rest, a location in the first one share from Harry Potter nothing else was, namely than the great hall! Wow, I was totally overpowered, and stared constantly to the cover only in hope to see an owl. But also without owl this nevertheless rather small cathedral is very worth seeing! Then we have had a look at a few inner courtyards of the adjoining collage, unfortunately, we did not have any more admission, because was taught in the rooms. Then a little we still sauntered along the high street, and then it was also from Oxford.

Farther it went on our trip in the north and we made one more stop to Warwick Castle. The castle counts to the nicest and best preserved castles of England and is a tourist attraction which is visited every year of thousands of people. The castle was till 1978 in the possession of the Earls of Warwick and then was sold to the Tussauds Group which financed the extensive restoration works on the castle and opened Warwick Castle for the general public. In the manorial furnished rooms arealso wax figures of Md. Tussauds and thus came I, however, in the pleasure a few wax figures to be able to admire.

Then we farther went to Chester which lies near on the border to northern Wales and covered there our hotel.

Frühling in Pillnitz

Bei herrlichsten Wetter haben Anne und ich uns heut zu einem kleinen Fototermin im Park von Schloss Pillnitz begeben, um unsere neusten Werke vor der Kamera auszuführen! Vier Stunden standen wir vor der Kamera von Franzi, und ich denke sie hat einige gute Schnappschüsse von uns gemacht!

In the most marvellous weather have transferred Anne and I  us today by a small photo appointment in the park of castle Pillnitz to explain our newest works before the camera! Four hours we stood before the camera of Franzi, and I think she has made some good snapshots of us!

Schuhe!

Hier sind sie nun, meine fertigen Schuhe! Sie sind natürlich in keiner Weise authentisch, schon weil ich viel Klebstoff verwendet habe, aber sie werden ihren Zweck für ein paar Fotos erfüllen!

Now here they are, my ready shoes! They are authentic of course in no manner, already because I have used a lot of glue, but they will fulfil their purpose for a few photos!

 

Bei hoffentlich schönem Wetter (zumindest trocken) werden Anne und ich am Sonntag einen kleinen Ausflug machen und ihr bekommt endlich Fotos von meinem Chemisenkleid in Aktion, nun auch mit passenden Schuhen!

In hopefully nice weather (at least drily) will make to Anne and I on Sunday a small excursion and, finally, you get photos of my Chemisenkleid in action, now also with suitable shoes!

Frohe Ostern!

...oder die nicht endende Frage: Wann verschwindet endlich dieser Schnee???

Ja es ist ein Graus! Gestern hat es schon wieder 15cm Neuschnee gegeben und langsam hab ich die Nase voll davon! Ich verlange ja nicht viel, aber eben, dass es nicht mehr schneit und nun endlich der Frühling Einzug halten kann!

Aber was hilft es schon zu jammern, ich sollte das Beste daraus machen und mich erfreuen an der Schneepracht da draußen...........hm.

... or the not ending question: When does this snow disappear, finally???

Yes it is a horror! Yesterday it has 15 cm of fresh snowfall given again and slowly I have the nose completely of it! I do not require a lot, but just that it is not snowing any more and can enter now, finally, the spring!

But what it helps to cry already, I should make the best from it and me please in the snowy splendour there outside........... humph.

Und was tut Frau wenn sie nichts besseres zu Tun hat? Genau, sie beschäftigt sich mit dem immer wiederkehrenden Thema Schuhe!

Nun ist es ja so, dass es in Deutschland nicht gerade einfach ist, an historisch korrekte Schuhe  zu kommen. Die meisten Anbieter kommen aus dem Ausland und haben dann nicht nur den hohen Preis für die Anfertigung, den man ja auch bereit ist zu zahlen, sondern es kommt ja noch ein relativ hohes Porto dazu und wenn es auch noch ein Anbieter aus dem nicht europäischen Ausland ist, so kommt noch die Zollgebühr dazu, die bei den hohen Schuhpreisen auch mächtig ins Geld geht.

Außerdem lohnt es sich nicht wirklich, nur für ein Kleid extra ein paar Schuhe zu kaufen. So greife ich hiermit in die Trickkiste! Die ist zwar ein keinster Weise historisch, aber für ein paar Bilder erfüllen sie ihren Zweck.

And what does woman if she has nothing better do to? Exactly, she deals with the always returning subject Shoes!

Now it is in such a way that it is not quite easy in Germany to come to historically correct shoes. Most suppliers come from abroad and then have not only the high price of the manufacture to which one is also ready to pay, but still a relatively high postage comes to that and if it is also a supplier from the not European foreign countries, the duty fee which goes with the high shoe prices also incredibly to the money still comes to that.

Moreover, it is not worthwhile really to buy a few shoes only for a dress specially. Herewith thus I reach in the trick box! Though it is not historical, but for a few pictures they fulfil their purpose.

Begonnen habe ich damit mir ein paar günstige Pumps in einem bekannten Schuhhaus zu kaufen. Mit einem Skalpell habe ich dann die Fersenpartie bis zum Vorfuß abgeschnitten, so dass sie nur noch die Vordere Spitze stehen blieb. Die innere Kunstledersohlen habe ich entfernt und sie gegen echte Ledersohlen ausgetauscht. Dann habe ich eine Schablone von der zukünftigen Schuhform angefertigt, eine Basis aus Decovil I ausgeschnitten und diese mit Seidentaft bezogen.

Als nächstes werde ich noch Verzierungen zuscheiden und anbringen, dann wird mit Farbe noch der Absatz gestaltet und letztendlich die „Deckplatte“ des zukünftigen Schuhes auf den alten geklebt.

Mal sehen, ob das so funktioniert wie ich mir das vorstelle. Wenn ja ist es die reinste Mogelpackung!

If I have started to buy with it to myself a few favorable pumps in a known shoe house. Then with a scalpel I have cut off the heel part up to the prefoot, so that it stopped only the front point. I have removed the internal imitation leather soles and have exchanged them for real leather soles. Then I have made a stencil of the future shoe form, have cut out a base of Decovil I and have covered this with silk taffeta.

As the next I still become cut decorations and attach, then still the sales are formed with colour and at last the "cover plate" of the future shoe on the old one are stuck.

Time see whether this as works as I fancy this. If so it is the purest misleading packaging!

chemise a la reine

Nach langem Warten gibt es heut endlich wieder etwas von der Schneiderfront zu berichten! Endlich bin ich mit meinem Chemisenkleid fertig geworden, juhu!! Die Zeit eilte aber auch so schnell vorbei, so dass ich mit nähen kaum hinterher kam. Letztendlich habe ich den letzten Nadelstich diesen Dienstag getan und nun möchte ich euch endlich mein Resultat vorstellen.

Today, after long waiting there is to report again somewhat about the sartorial front! Finally, I have finished my Chemisedress, phew!! However, the time also hastened past so fast, so that I with sew hardly behind came. At last I have done the last needle sting this Tuesday and now, I would like to present to you my result.

Aber zuerst noch einige Details! Inspiration für dieses Projekt fand ich wie so oft im Internet. Zuerst war ich mir nicht ganz sicher, was ich für eine Richtung einschlagen sollte. Weite geraffte Ärmel oder schmale, mit Rüschen oder ohne, mit offenem Rock oder doch die geschlossene.......die größte Schwierigkeit war es mich für etwas zu entscheiden. Also ließ ich mich noch einmal von Gemälden aus der Zeit inspirieren.

But first still some details! I found inspiration for this project like so often on the Internet. First I was not quite sure to me what I should smash for a direction. Width heaped sleeves or narrow, with frills or without, with open skirt or closed....... the biggest problem was to be decided it me for something. So I drew inspiration once again from paintings from the time.

Schließlich habe ich mich für die ganz klassische Variante a’ la Marie Antoinette entscheiden. Weite geraffte Ärmel, mit Rüschen an Halsausschnitt und Ärmel und die geschlossene Rockfront. Außerdem habe ich noch einen blaugrauen Gürtel aus Seidentaft genäht, dieser ist 2,20m lang und 20cm breit. Für das Kleid hab ich rund 6m Baumwollmousselin verbraucht und rund 70 Arbeitsstunden.

Leider lassen es die Temperaturen von –4°C nicht zu, mich in diesem dünnen Stoff in den Schneematsch zu wagen, außerdem täuscht der Sonnenschein, da dieser nur 10 min dauerte und ein anschließender Schneesturm über mich hinweg fegte. So seht ihr hier nur meine neue Puppe und das fertige Kleid.
